Joel is an investment fund specialist
based in Mourant Ozannes' Jersey office.
Joel has worked in the funds and trust
industry since 1997. Prior to joining Mourant Ozannes Joel was a
senior lawyer within Australia's largest investment fund manager
advising on areas of trust law, superannuation and managed
investments for some of Australia's leading investment funds.
Prior to 2003, Joel was an associate in the funds and capital
markets practice groups of another major Australian fund manager
working on domestic and international funds. Joel also has four
years commercial experience in trust administration and risk
management.
Professional qualifications:
Joel obtained his undergraduate law qualification in 2000
followed by a post graduate diploma in legal practice in 2001. Joel
was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales
in 2001 (currently non-practising).* Joel also has a Masters degree
in Commercial Law awarded in 2003.
Highlight deals:
Joel led a team at Mourant Ozannes (alongside Norton Rose LLP)
which provided Jersey advice to a Malaysian property consortium
comprising property group, SP Setia, Sime Darby and Employees
Provident Fund on the joint venture aspects of the consortium's
acquisition of landmark Battersea Power Station. The proposed
development will be a 15 year project costing up to £8
billion;
Joel led a team at Mourant Ozannes (alongside K&L Gates
LLP) which provided advice on the Jersey aspects on the
establishment of Atlantic Regeneration 1 Unit Trust, a closed-ended
collective investment fund authorised as a Jersey Expert Fund and
listed on the Channel Islands Stock Exchange;
Joel led a team at Mourant Ozannes that advised Salamanca
Capital on the establishment of Sal-Cap L.P. and Sal-Cap II L.P.,
two Jersey expert funds co-investing indirectly in one of Brazil's
most respected real estate developers;
Joel acts as primary Jersey legal advisor to Malaysia's
Employees Provident Fund in connection with its £1.5 billion
investment in commercial property in London;
Joel led a team at Mourant Ozannes (alongside Linklaters LLP)
which provided Jersey advice to JP Morgan on its acquisition of 60
Victoria Embankment, London;
Joel led a team at Mourant Ozannes (alongside DLA Piper LLP)
which provided advice to Wereldhave N.V., on the Jersey aspects of
its €100m acquisition of the Dolphin Centre, Poole;
Joel led a team at Mourant Ozannes (alongside K&L Gates
LLP) which provided advice to various co-investing investment
entities of Henderson Global Investors in connection with the £188m
commercial office acquisition of the "Leadenhall Triangle",
London;
Joel advised NM Rothchilds & Sons on the launch of the
Quintus Mezzanine Fund, a €150 million leveraged mezzanine fund
focused on European investments;
Joel led a team at Mourant Ozannes (alongside SJ Berwin LLP)
which provided advice on the establishment of Resource Eastern
European Equity Partners I, L.P., a private equity fund targeting
commitments of up to €200 million and investing in mid-cap
agribusinesses in Central and South-Eastern Europe;
Joel led a team at Mourant Ozannes advising Universities
Superannuation Scheme Limited on the Jersey law aspects of its
interest in the Telford Shopping Centre and Gyle Shopping Centre,
which were sold for £442 million and £267 million
respectively.
