Employment Law in Guernsey

Our Employment team provides specialist employment law advice in Guernsey. The team of highly experienced lawyers predominantly advises large and medium sized employers and the offshore operations of many global financial institutions.

We were involved in the drafting of Guernsey's principal employment legislation in 1998 and have more lawyers specialising in employment law than any other Guernsey law firm.

We also offer an Employment Law Consultancy Service, which comes in two forms. The first is a Healthcheck Service - in return for a fixed fee, we will review your employment documentation, policies and procedures for compliance with the relevant legislation.

Alternatively, our Full Compliance Service will carry out a root and branch review, draft new contracts and procedures if necessary and give you access to an employment law hotline constantly staffed by one of our employment team so that you can get an instant answer to that knotty HR problem. We also offer advanced management training to assist clients in applying their procedures in a compliant manner.

Our aim in advising clients is to ensure that employment matters are dealt with in a way that does not lead to litigation. However, our Employment team includes a number of litigation partners with substantial experience before the Courts and Tribunals in Guernsey and we are therefore well able to deal with matters which become contentious.

A survey of professional women representing a wide cross section of Guernsey's business community has revealed that 48 per cent had experienced some form of sexual harassment in the workplace. The poll was conducted at "The Sex Debate", hosted by the Women's Development Forum and debated by Mourant Ozannes.

Over 100 women attended the debate, which focused on the "grey area" of sexual harassment and explored the murky waters where office banter can often become bullying or harassment.
